| February 6, 2021, 3:50 PMFebruary 6, 2021, 3:50 PMThe Philadelphia Eagles are expected to trade quarterback Carson Wentz "in the coming days," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen. According to the report, the Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts are among the teams that have expressed interest in Wentz, and the Eagles are looking for "a Matthew Stafford package" in return for the second-overall pick in 2016. The Detroit Lions dealt Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend in exchange for fellow quarterback Jared Goff, two first-round picks and a third-round pick. While Wentz has flashed elite potential in the past, including an MVP-calibre 2017 season that ended with a torn ACL, he struggled mightily this past season. Wentz led the league in interceptions (15) and sacks (50) despite being benched by former head coach Doug Pedersen for the final four games of the season. The benching in favour of rookie Jalen Hurts, whom the Eagles surprisingly drafted in the second round in 2020, appears to have created friction between Wentz and the team that has led to this point. The Eagles signed Wentz to a four-year, $128-million extension in June 2019 that kicks in next season, and trading the quarterback means Philadelphia would take on a dead cap hit of $34 million. Despite the hefty price of trading their franchise quarterback, Schefter and Mortensen report "Philadelphia has known the cap challenges that were ahead for months and has a plan to address it."
